Objective:To evaluate the effect of acupuncture with invigorating viscera and purging fu, replenishing qi and nourishing yin for the T2DM patients with qi and yin deficiency syndrome. Methods:A total of 59 patients who met the inclusion criteria from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2020 in the Endocrinology Department of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Anhui University of Chinese Medicine were divided into the acupuncture group with 30 cases and a control group with 29 cases, according to the random number table method. The control group received conventional hypoglycemic treatment. And the acupuncture group was treated with acupuncture on the basis of the control group treatment. Both groups were treated for 4 weeks. TCM syndrome scores were performed before and after treatment, respectively. Serum IL-6 was measured by ELISA, serum CRP by immunoturbidimetry, and serum fasting blood glucose (FPG), 2 hPG, HbAlc, TC, TG, HDL-C, LDL-C levels by spectrophotometry. The BMI, clinical effect rates were calculated. Results:The total effective rate was 96.7% (29/30) in acupuncture group and 75.9% (22/29) in control group, and the difference was statistically significant ( χ2=5.96, P<0.01). After treatment, the scores of fatigue, dryness of mouth and pharynx, spontaneous sweating and night sweating, shortness of breath and lazy speech in acupuncture group were significantly lower than those in the control group ( t values were 6.02, 4.31, 4.34, 3.63, respectively, all Ps<0.01). The serum CRP level in acupuncture group was significantly lower than that of the control group at 21, 48 d after treatment ( t values were -4.36, -3.75, respectively, all Ps<0.01), and IL-6 level was significantly lower than that of the control group at 14, 21, 28 d after treatment ( t values were -2.92, -5.35, -8.71, respectively, all Ps<0.01). After treatment, the serum TC [(4.62±0.68) mmol/L vs. (5.56±0.72) mmol/L, t=5.16], TG [(1.48±0.42) mmol/L vs. (2.12±0.89) mmol/L, t=3.55], LDL-C [(2.48±0.84) mmol/L vs.(3.02±0.95) mmol/L, t=2.32] in the acupuncture group were significantly lower than those in the control group ( P<0.05), HDL-C [(1.39±0.27) mmol/L vs. (1.26±0.22) mmol/L, t=-2.02] in the acupuncture group was significantly higher than that of the control group ( P<0.05). ABSTRACT

Objective:To discuss the effect of acupuncture on learning and memory ability and the expression of neuroglobin (Ngb) of the hippocampus of vascular cognitive impaired (VCI) rats. Methods:VCI rats model was established by repeated ligation of the carotid arteries of the two sides to induce ischemia-reperfusion injury. The successful modeled rats were divided into acupuncture group and a model group according to the random number table method, with 12 rats in each group, and 12 rats were selected as the normal group. The rats in the acupuncture group received acupuncture at "Baihui", "Fengfu" and "Yongquan", 10 times as a course of treatment, a total of 3 courses, and stop acupuncture treatment for 2 days during the courses of treatment. Neurobehavioral scores were measured on the 3rd day after the intervention. Morris water maze was conducted to detect the learning and memory ability of the rats in each group, and Western blot was used to detect the expression of Ngb in the hippocampus of the rats. Results:Compared with the model group, the behavioral score of the acupuncture group decreased after intervention ( P<0.05), the escape latency was significantly shortened ( P<0.05), the number of crossing platforms was increased ( P<0.05), and the hippocampal Ngb (1.18±0.06 vs.0.98±0.04) was significantly increased ( P<0.05). Conclusion:Acupuncture at "Baihui", "Fengfu" and "Yongquan" could promote the expression of Ngb in the hippocampus of rats and improve the learning and memory ability of VCI rats.

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of moving cupping in the anterior cervical region plus bloodletting in treating acute pharyngitis.Method Thirty-six patients with acute pharyngitis were randomized into two groups, 18 cases each. The treatment group was intervened by moving cupping in the anterior cervical region plus bloodletting at Tiantu (CV22), and the control group was intervened by oral administration of Pu Di Lanoral liquid. The therapeutic efficacy was evaluated by using the acute pharyngitis symptoms grading scale, and the adverse reactions in the treatment group were also observed.Result The two treatment methods were both effective, and the between-group difference in comparing the total effective rate was statistically insignificant (P>0.05). Compared with the control group, the treatment group showed a swifter action; pharyngeal pain, dry and burning sensations in pharynx, and mucus congestion were effectively improved, the disease duration was shortened, and there were no adverse reactions in the treatment group. Conclusion Moving cupping in the anterior cervical region plus bloodletting can effectively mitigate the sufferings of the patients with acute pharyngitis without producing any adverse reactions.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To observe the effect of mild-warm moxa stick moxibustion on fatigue, immune state and quality of life (QOL) in sub-health population. Methods: A total of 120 cases were randomly allocated into a moxibustion group (n=60) and a Chinese patent medicine (CPM) group (n=60). People in the moxibustion group were intervened with mild-warm moxa stick moxibustion, once a day; while people in the control group took oral Bu Zhong Yi Qi Wan (Spleen/stomach-supplementing and Qi-boosting Pill), 3 doses a day. Two months made up a course of treatment. The fatigue, immune state and QOL were then observed after one treatment course, followed by a 12-month follow-up. Results: A total of 115 cases completed the clinical trial. After intervention, the fatigue scores, immune parameters and QOL scores were significantly increased in both groups, showing statistical significances (P<0.05). There were between-group significant differences in fatigue score, levels of immunoglobulin M (IgM) and IgG, natural killer (NK) cell activity and QOL score (P<0.05). After the 12-month follow-up, there were still significant between-group differences in fatigue score, physical health, psychological, social relationships and overall perception of QOL and overall perception of health (P<0.05). Conclusion: Mild-warm moxibustion can markedly improve the fatigue, immune state and QOL in sub-health population.

ABSTRACT

Objective To express and purify Chlamydial protease-like activity factor(CPAF)from Chlamydophila pneumoniae, for investigating the effect of its recombinant protein GST-CPAF in inducing human monocytic cells to secrete proinflammatory cytokines and cell apoptosis. Methods The recom-bination expression plasmid pGEX6p-2/CPAF from Chlamydophila pneumoniae was transformed into E.coli.The recombination GST-CPAF was expressed after induction by IPTG,and purified by a agarose gel FF.Human monocytic cells were stimulated by the GST-CPAF to test the production of tumor necrosis factor a(TNF-α)and interleukin-6(IL- 6)by ELISA.Inhibition of cells proliferation with GST-CPAF was assessed by MTT.The THP-1 cell apoptosis stimulated by GST-CPAF was detected by Hoechst33258 fluorescence staining,DNA fragmentation analysis and cell apeptosis was detested bv Annexin V-FITC-propidiuum iodide (PI)staining. Results The recombination protein GST-CPAF was successfully expressed with high level in E.coli, and stimulated human monocytic cells to produce proinflammatory cytokines including TNF-α and IL-6 in a dose-and time-dependent manner.Otherwise, the GST-CPAF inhibited the growth of human monocytic cell in a dose-dependent manner.Apoptosis with nuclear chromatin fragmentation as well as cell shrinkage was observed by fluorescent staining and microscopy,DNA ladders in apoptosis cells were detected after 24 h with the GST-CPAF.Conclusion The GST-CPAF from Chlamydophila pneumoniae can induce the secretion of proinflammatory cytokines TNF-α and IL-6 by human monocytic cells, and inhibited the proliferation of THP-1 cell and apoptosis in vitro.
